The Flowy Armor

DESCRIPTION In my thorough investigation into the origins of the fencing jacket, I embarked on an exploration of its history, particularly its association with armor and its portrayal of the male figure. This inquiry led me to reflect on the archetypal depiction of masculinity exemplified in stories like that of St. George and the dragon, which emerged during the 19th century. This narrative often epitomizes the conventional motif of a valiant hero—a strong, heroic male—rescuing a damsel in distress by triumphing over a formidable adversary, the dragon. However, I want to shift the narrative of this motif to reflect the empowerment of women. Where women put on metaphorical armor and fearlessly facing the challenges that confront them.

This shirt collection blends elements of traditional armor with nuanced touches that celebrate femininity. The garments mimic the structure of armor, with some parts designed to emulate rigidity for protection and others crafted with softer, more fluid materials to accentuate femininity. Dissecting the chosen garment, the shirt includes elements of layer and pleating in different materials to separate but at the same time combining the hard and soft side of the armor inspired garment.

In essence, this collection not only pays homage to the historical roots of armor but also heralds a new era of empowerment, where women courageously embrace their own narratives and face life’s challenges with resilience and grace.
